"Running is a Privilege," Katrin - PRO Compression Ambassador

In case you haven't had the chance to meet any PRO Compression Ambassadors, we thought we'd take some time to introduce a few of them to you. We're thankful to be associated with so many inspirational people and and hope you enjoy learning about them too. Katrin is definitely passionate about running.

What do you love most about running?

I love running because it reminds me of the amazing things my body can do. Running has helped me to appreciate and challenge my body, and I am so grateful for where running has taken me physically and mentally. This quote from Runner’s World really resonates with me: “But running is a privilege. Not everyone can do it, and there may come a day when you won’t be able to anymore. If today isn’t that day, celebrate it.”

If you had to race one distance, what would it be?

Easy, it would be half marathon. It was my first goal race, in which I trained for an entire year, and the first race that I actually felt like an accomplished, bad-ass runner.

What is your favorite race and why?

My favorite race is the Humboldt Bay Half Marathon, which is held in my hometown. 2015 was the inaugural year so that was very exciting. I loved the comfort and familiarity of racing in my neck of the woods among redwood trees and the bay. Many of my family members volunteered along the course so seeing them during the race really made the experience that much better. Plus, my half marathon PR was the cherry on top. :)

What are your top 3 running goals for 2016?

  1. Run a full marathon. Running a half marathon was something that I always wanted to do, believed I could, but never got around to doing. A full marathon, on the other hand, is something that I really truly believed I may never get the opportunity to do. It just seemed to me like something only extreme rock stars could do. Well, I wanna be a rock star so I am now training to run my first ever full marathon in August.
  2. New PR for half marathon. The goal I had for my first half ever was sub 2 hours. I finished in 1:59:27. Yeah…close call. Then, I smashed that time with my next half at 1:55:15! I’m aiming for 1:50 this year.
  3. Complete Rock n’ Roll Running Series Cali Combo. I’m aiming for San Francisco, San Diego, and San Jose to achieve this extra medal because #allthebling. I hope to finally meet and get to know other PRO fanatics at these races, the PRO booth, and the #werunsocial meetups!Race outside of California. I’m currently registered for a 10K in Washington state so hopefully that will be my first goal accomplished.

Why did you want to become a PRO Compression Ambassador?

I wanted to become a PRO ambassador because I am all about rocking super socks that are not only extremely beneficial for training and recovery, but are also an excellent way to create a statement and start a conversation. PRO Compression has helped me branch outside of my lone running bubble and become more social with other awesome members of the running community. I’m excited and proud to be part of the PRO team, one that keeps the fun in running!

The question everyone wants to know: What's Your Favorite Pair of Compression Socks (or Sleeves)?

My absolute favorite PRO Compression socks are without a doubt #gibblers! They were my first pair and these beauties are how I acquired my undying love for PRO Compression- the socks, the company, and the rad community it includes.

Any final thoughts you'd like to share?

If any PRO lovers ever want to check out the majestic redwoods and gorgeous coast of Northern California, I encourage you to schedule your trip around one of our local races hosted by Six Rivers Running Club to get the full experience of running among these ginormous trees at either Avenue of the Giants Marathon and Half, Redwood Marathon and Half, or the Humboldt Bay Marathon and Half.
